NBA Banter
Lebron’s NFL Stardom
LBJ (Lebron James for those out of the “hip” arena) candidly spoke on his potential as an NFL tight end or WR and started another daily debate on the most “athletic” being in the world. It is fairly obvious through my eyes, that in the thirty years of dissecting amateur & professional athletes, Lebron James is the single most complete physical specimen to dawn humanity since maybe… Jim Thorpe.
Notwithstanding my original comment , Kobe Bryant is still the best basketball player in the world, with Dwayne Wade in relatively close proximity. To my point on RealSkipBayless@twitter today, a NBA skill set transfers to the NFL much more successfully than vice versa. As my proof I present this…there is without a shadow of a doubt more productive collegiate players whom played basketball at their respective universities have fruitful careers in the NFL than players who played football have favor in the NBA. For example, Tony Gonzalez, the best complete tight end in NFL history…i.e. Ricky Dudley, Antonio Gates, Harold Carmichael Terrell Owens, Mike Ditka, and Ed “Too Tall” Jones just to name a few. Power/Small Forwards are the best prospects to be considered for football stardom. They have the size, agility and superior hand-eye coordination that directly shifts to the gridiron. Lebron James fits the mold to absolute perfection. From the eye test, Lebron appears to be albe to sprint the forty in 4.5 range or better! The court is 94 feet divided by 3 feet which equals a yard, you do the math. The Logic is there…
The one attribute that players would need to get accustomed to is the ability to “take a hit”. Unlike an “iron-jaw” in boxing, it can be learned and everyone from veterans to rookies utilizes OTA’s and preseason to acclimate there bodies into collision condition. This is why I support keeping preseason but reducing the number of games by two. The only significant reverse scenario that comes to mind is Willis Reed where he ultimately succumbs to knee injuries which were believed by most, to have originated from football, unfortunately.
ESPN’s Todd McShay believes it will be a stretch but agrees that his athletic talent is comparable to NFL athelete(…Herman Edwards concurred).
Bottom line…he would be the next coming of Anquan Boldin!!!
